UJIMA HOUSING ASSOCIATION
COLDHARBOUR LANE, LONDON SW9
Planning application for 50% of this master
plan was granted outline consent in 2002.
This social housing project for the Ujima Housing Association comprises 45 homes in one, two and three bed maisonette units. The design concept adopts the
2001 Urban Design Framework for East Brixton, principally in regenerating he eastern approaches from Camberwell.
Situation on open land blighted by the abandoned 1970's strategy for an inner relief road and the resulting giant Southwyck house barrier blocks, the intention is to re-establish the street frontages to the south side of Coldharbour Lane. Proposed investment in good quality hard and soft landscaping together with a rich mixture of new arcaded facades, projecting bays, oversailing roof tops and corner pavilions repairs the human scale and reintroduces the
overlooking necessary for a secure street environment.
