HOUSING DEVELOPMENT PROPOSALS FOR
THE LEWES HOUSE SITE. EAST SUSSEX
The development consists in 36 no. private units, and 29 housing units. Tipically in Lewes the terraces exhibit a very simple arrangement of punched openings within a continuous flat facade, often in grey brick but equally in flat panels of red clay tiling, painted render and flints. Roofs are steeply pitched with wide contonuous overhanging eaves. The proposals use this basic formula, and pallet of materials as the basis in the design of the elevations. Openings are either single punched windows or grouped openings within crisply detailed panels which are framed using contemporary detailing (painted steel linels and timber inserts etc) This approach is designed to allow the elevations to reflect a contemporary feel whilst extending the character of the Lewes Terrace onto the site.
