LOW ENERGY AFFORDABLE HOUSING
BRANSFORD, WORCESTER
Planning Consent Feb 2007
We are working with the Festival Housing Association to provide eight low energy affordable homes ona rural exception site. The development is arranged as a terrace of houses in three groups all orientated north/south. The living space occupies The entire south facing facade, enjoying views over open countryside through large windows receiving good passive solar gain. Entrance, kitchen/ diner, bedrooms and bathroom all face north through smaller windows reducing heat loss. The houses will be well insulated. Space heating willbe by bore hole heat pump linked to underfloor heating coils. Hot water will be supplemented by solar panels. The south roof pitch encloses a double height living space overlooked by a gallery landing. The high level void will facilitate good summer time whole house ventilation and allow the introduction of borrowed light
into north facing bedrooms. Building construction will be timber frame with exterior walls faced in brick and coloured render. Each terraced house accesses its own garden through a multi purpose porte-cochere that acts as a covered entrance, car port, bike store, 3 compartment recycling bins area and a zone for possible future storm porch.
