Using themes and motifs from traditional Chinese garden architecture, an existing 1960's café adjacent to Gloucester Cattle Market was transformed into a contemporary restaurant.
The blank end wall of the single storey structure was removed to open the interior out onto a new ornamental garden approach. Through a series of screens the
restaurant interior can be glimpsed.
A free standing
steel and timber lattice screen provides a framed view
into the restaurant and a trellis for climbing plants.
The end wall is a fully glazed timber screen framed in high gloss varnished douglas fir circular columns on spherical plinths. Curved steel balustrades protect the glass and a serpentine glazed canopy oversails the entrance.
The entrance lobby is formed from a glazed 'moongate'
which is replicated in mirror glass within the restaurant
interior to accentuate the perspective view
upon entering the restaurant.
