THAMES BRIDGE
OXFORDSHIRE
This project is a competition entry designed in collaboration with structural engineers Price and Myers,
and spans approximately 30m.
The structure comprises two pairs of slender tapering hammer head posttensioned concrete beams linked at
mid span by a circular pre cast concrete collar. This collar provides both a vantage point and seating area for walkers. The structure is overlaid by a timber deck and braced balustrade. Earth banks from the tow path to each side together with the overall low pitch of the bridge avoid the need for steps.
Materials were chosen for their zero maintenance / long life. Concrete aggregate is to be carefully selected and graded limestone with white cement, and timber to be
British cedar. |
