NEW CHANGING FACILITIES, PUBIC W.C’S AND COMMUNITY ‘HUB’ IN BELAIR PARK
West Dulwich.
Belair Park is a historic landscape, a fine example of design and planting typical of the late 19th centrury. The park plays an important role as an amenity resource for the local community. A study of the park as a whole was made which identified the former “Paddock’ area as the most appropriate site for the building. This site is screened from the park by a band of landscaping, mainly in the form of modern conifer shrubs which although forming an evergreen screen are not indigenous to the park or indeed to the english landscaping tradition. There are 3 accommodation uses withing the building: a) Public W’Cs: Housed within the former chapel giving access directly off the main path network. B) Changing Rooms: Laid out off a wide corridor, surmounted by a flat roof, behind the curved garden wall and c) Community Rooms: Studies undertaken by the council identied a great need for a small community resource for young people in the area.Natural light is brougt into the building from high level clerestory windows at the apex of the main shallow pitched.
