TENBURY PUBLIC LAVATORIES
This design for the new Tenbury public lavatories won a design competition sponsored by Malvern Hills District Council, after the original buildings were swept away in the violent 2008 flash floods.
The concept is based upon the familiar sculptural forms of Teme Valley hop kilns, but down sized to contain individual loos.
The three 'pods' will create a humorous and eye-catching feature, contributing to the already rich town heritage for architectural idiosyncrasy, particularly evident in the nearby beautiful Butter Market and Pump Rooms. The group of three mini kilns create a small public open space from which to safely contemplate Kyre Brook on one side and busy Market Street on the other.
